EVALUATION AND TREATMENT

  • What is unique about New Dimensions Physical Therapy is that we specialize in treating complex conditions and evaluating the body as a whole.
  • Our physical therapists evaluate and treat muscular, joint, and sports-related injuries, as well as post-surgical orthopedic conditions.
  • Therapists spend the entire one-hour session directly with their patients, offering the best treatment and education available.
  • Our definition of a successful treatment is that the underlying cause of our patient's injury has been addressed, their symptoms are alleviated, and they leave with knowledge regarding how to address and prevent future such injuries.
MANUAL THERAPY

  • Often confused with massage, manual therapy is a more precise technique aimed at restoring pain-free movement and optimal alignment throughout the body.
  • Manual therapy is a significant component of our treatment approach with most patients. This approach includes specific joint and soft tissue mobilization techniques applied to the spine and extremities.
  • Manual therapy enables our patients to function more efficiently and reduces destructive forces that could otherwise contribute to premature degenerative changes.
EXERCISE PRESCRIPTION

  • The cornerstone to any effective treatment program.
  • We pride ourselves on the depth of consideration that goes into the design of our exercise programs (in contrast to generalized approaches to exercise).
  • Our in-depth approach is characterized by:
    • Recognizing the unique needs of patients ranging from high level athletes to individuals severely limited by chronic pain.
    • Targeting the program specific to a patient's desired skills and goals.
    • Prescribing sets, repetitions, and resistance that is specific to promoting healing in bone, cartilage, ligament, tendon and muscle.
    • Incorporating postural and movement re-education.
MODALITIES

  • To reduce pain and facilitate healing we supplement our treatments with the following: Ultrasound, iontophoresis, electrical stimulation, TENS, taping, bracing, mechanical traction, ice and heat.
AQUATIC THERAPY

  • New Dimensions Physical Therapy is one of the few clinics in Austin that offers aquatic therapy.
  • Exercising in water provides two key benefits: (1) Buoyancy, which increases the ease of movement, and (2) resistance, which provides challenge for strengthening.
  • Aquatic therapy effectively helps increase range of motion, strength, and stability throughout recovery.
  • Aquatic therapy is particularly valuable in treating arthritis, chronic pain, fibromyalgia, total joint replacements, neurological, and sports-related injuries, as well as pregnant and post-partum women.

BIOMECHANICAL RUNNING ASSESSMENT

  • Foot, knee and hip pain are common complaints we see in our patients who range from beginner to elite runners.
  • We determine the underlying reason for pain through a detailed video analysis of an individual's running technique.
  • A specific assessment of common muscular imbalances and faulty alignment patterns is performed.
  • We prescribe specific exercises to strengthen key muscles, teach proper methods of stretching, and enhance running efficiency.
  • We advise our patients regarding the types of shoes and/or orthotic inserts that may be helpful to improve foot and lower extremity biomechanics.
CYCLING TECHNIQUE AND BIKE FIT ASSESSMENT

  • From the outside looking in, cycling can appear to be a relatively simple and straight forward activity. You just jump the bike and start pedaling.
  • In actuality, cycling is far more complex and places a high demand on the musculoskeletal system.
  • For a cyclist interested in performance and injury prevention, a customized bike fit and assessment of cycling technique is critical.
  • Our assessment includes analyzing and modifying the fit of the bike to optimize an individual©ˆs biomechanics and efficiency.
  • Cycling technique is also evaluated to identify any faulty alignment or muscle recruitment patterns that could contribute to injury as well as hinder performance.
ERGONOMIC ASSESSMENT AND RECOMMENDATION

  • Does your work environment fit your body?
  • Ergonomics is the science of designing work places so they meet the unique needs of each person.
  • We work with corporations as well as individuals on a one-on-one basis.
  • Workstations are evaluated for any specific equipment needs.
  • Recommendations are given to ensure awareness of proper body mechanics and posture.
  • The primary goal of ergonomics is to prevent injuries, increase comfort, and improve productivity.
ORTHOTICS

  • Do you have fallen arches, reoccurring knee, hip, or back pain?
  • The reason for your problem may actually be coming from your feet.
  • Orthotics are custom made shoe inserts that improve the alignment and function of your feet as well as the rest of your body.
  • Our holistic approach combines a thorough assessment of the foot and ankle, in addition to the overall alignment and function of the entire body.
  • Our goal is to design a device that will ultimately normalize movement, improve biomechanics, and reduce pain in your aching muscles and joints.
POSTURAL ANALYSIS

  • Posture and alignment are fundamental to our ability to move with ease, grace, and youthfulness.
  • When we are unaware of how we use our body throughout the day, unnecessary muscular tensions can accumulate. Furthermore, excessive compression can occur within our joints and our capacity to breath efficiently is reduced.
  • Faulty postural alignment can lead to a variety of painful conditions such as headaches, backaches, and arthritis. This ultimately affects our quality of life by decreasing vitality and accelerating the aging process of our musculoskeletal system.
  • Postural analysis is an integral part of our approach to treatment.
